About the Ministerial Council on Energy: The Ministerial Council on Energy is the national policy and governance body for the Australian Energy Market, responsible for delivering the economic and environmental benefits for Australia resulting from implementation of the Council of Australian Governments national energy policy framework.

Energy Efficiency

The Ministerial Council on Energy (MCE) has energy efficiency policy among its responsibilities. The Energy Efficiency Working Group advises it on the performance of Australia's end-use energy efficiency policies and programs including information available to consumers. Currently, the Energy Efficiency Working Group is addressing:

  • implementation of the National Framework for Energy Efficiency package of measures including energy efficiency programs for appliances and equipment, energy efficiency standards for buildings and energy efficiency measures across the commercial, government and industrial sectors
  • coordination of trade related trans-Tasman energy efficiency policies and programs.
